“Fundamentals of Scientific Research” – UCT Honours module

Dr Gabriel Jamie and Professor Claire Spottiswoode of the African Cuckoos team, together with Professor Anusuya Chinsamy-Turan, have just finished teaching an Honours (4th-year undergraduate) module on “Fundamentals of Scientific Research” at University of Cape Town. The module explores the process of scientific investigation from making observations in nature, asking research questions, developing hypotheses and designing studies to test predictions. The module finished with a panel on “Next steps for postgraduate study”. Panel members included African Cuckoos own Cameron Blair as well as Dr Natasha Karenyi, Dr Celiwe Ngcamphalala, Dr Chris Vennum, Abiodun Ademola, and Dr Dunja MacAlister.

Jess Lund awarded an R. C. Lewontin Grant from the Society for the Study of Evolution

The Society for the Study of Evolution has awarded Jess Lund an R. C. Lewontin Graduate Research Excellence Grant, which will enable her to expand her investigations into the fascinating lives of honeyguides.
